Celebrate Matariki in Devonport with a month-long programme of community events, performances, markets, exhibitions, workshops and whānau-friendly activities. From the Matariki Star Trail through the village to storytelling at the library, tree planting, kai, kōrero and local celebrations, there are plenty of ways to come together, reflect, connect and mark the Māori New Year.

Matariki Star Trail Competition

Date: Monday 8 June – Wednesday 8 July
Location: Across 9 stores in Devonport Village

Hunt for 9 stars across 9 stores in the village. Collect a star map from the Devonport Library and return it with your name, answers and contact details.

Matariki Celebrations

Date: Monday 1 June

Location: Band Rotunda

Haere mai whānau – all welcome. Join whānau and local kapa haka for Matariki celebrations at the Band Rotunda.

Matariki Reader with Whaea Val

Date: Sunday 7 June
Time: 10am
Location: Devonport Library

Haere mai, all welcome. Join Whaea Val for a Matariki Reader session at Devonport Library.

Matariki Tamariki

Date: Saturday 13 June
Time: 2pm–4pm
Location: Devonport Community House, then Whare Toi

Matariki Tamariki will begin at Devonport Community House from 2pm–4pm, followed by a hīkoi from Whare Toi to Maunga Takarunga at 4pm.
