From June 8, hunt for nine beautiful stars hidden in local shop windows across Devonport and win a $300 voucher. Plus, join us for a full month of Matariki celebrations—performances, markets, community gatherings, and more.
Star Trail Competition
This Matariki, nine local schools have created beautiful stars, now hidden in shop windows around Devonport waiting to be discovered.
The star trail is a celebration of our community and the significance of Matariki in Māori culture. Each of the nine stars represents something meaningful in our connection to the environment and each other.
Hunt for all nine stars and you'll be in the draw to win a $300 voucher from a Devonport business of your choice.
Trail runs: 8 June – 8 July 2026
Entries close: 5pm, Wednesday 8 July
How to Play
- Grab your entry form from the Devonport Library at 2 Victoria Road
- Hunt around Devonport to find the nine Matariki stars hidden in local shop windows
- Write down the shop name where you found each star on the back of your entry form
- Drop your completed form back at the library by 5pm Wednesday 8 July to go in the draw

Devonport Matariki Celebration
Celebrate Matariki in Devonport with a month-long programme of community events, performances, markets, exhibitions, workshops and whānau-friendly activities. From the Matariki Star Trail through the village to storytelling at the library, tree planting, kai, kōrero and local celebrations, there are plenty of ways to come together, reflect, connect and mark the Māori New Year.
Matariki Celebrations
5pm at Band Rotunda. Haere mai whānau – all welcome. Join whānau and local kapa haka for Matariki celebrations.
Matariki Reader with Whaea Val
10am at Devonport Library. Haere mai, all welcome.
Matariki Star Trail Competition
Hunt for 9 stars across 9 stores in the village. Collect a star map from Devonport Library and return it with your name, answers and contact details.
Matariki Tamariki
2pm–4pm at Devonport Community House, followed by a hīkoi to Maunga Takarunga at 4pm. Visit devonportcomhouse.com
