Star Trail Competition

This Matariki, nine local schools have created beautiful stars, now hidden in shop windows around Devonport waiting to be discovered.

The star trail is a celebration of our community and the significance of Matariki in Māori culture. Each of the nine stars represents something meaningful in our connection to the environment and each other.

Hunt for all nine stars and you'll be in the draw to win a $300 voucher from a Devonport business of your choice.

Trail runs: 8 June – 8 July 2026
Entries close: 5pm, Wednesday 8 July

How to Play

  1. Grab your entry form from the Devonport Library at 2 Victoria Road
  2. Hunt around Devonport to find the nine Matariki stars hidden in local shop windows
  3. Write down the shop name where you found each star on the back of your entry form
  4. Drop your completed form back at the library by 5pm Wednesday 8 July to go in the draw

Devonport Matariki Celebration

The star trail is just the beginning. Devonport comes alive during Matariki with celebrations, markets, performances, and community gatherings throughout June and July. Whether you're interested in cultural performances, environmental planting, or simply celebrating together as a community, there's something for everyone.

FRIDAY 28 JUNE

Matariki Celebrations

5pm at the Band Rotunda. Whānau welcome. Local kapa haka, performances, and community gathering.

WEDNESDAY 2 JULY

The Sandman Performance

6:30pm at Rose Centre. A performance by Marcus Winter. Tickets $20. Visit rosecentre.co.nz

FRIDAY 10 JULY

Matariki Public Holiday

Matariki celebrations, markets, and shows. 4pm onwards at Lake House, Takapuna. lakehousearts.org.nz
